About the Code4Privacy Hackathon
In a world where data is invaluable, ensuring its privacy and security at every stage is paramount. The code4Privacy hackathon seeks to foster creativity, collaboration, inclusivity, and a culture of data privacy.
Students from Nigeria Tertiary institutions with relevant skills set in coding, design, software development, project management etc. are encouraged to come up with project ideas that enhance the privacy of data subjects and incorporate privacy by design.
Female students are strongly encouraged to participate. The hackathon will feature educative webinars as well as interactive mentorship. Participants stand a chance to win cash prizes and other prizes such as internships, scholarships and certifications.

What to Expect
1. Engaging Challenges: Dive into real-world design challenges and develop data privacy solutions with guidance from industry experts.

2. Expert Mentorship: Access to mentors across technical, legal, and ethical domains to refine your ideas and projects.

3. Networking Opportunities: Connect with like-minded individuals, potential collaborators, and industry professionals passionate about data privacy.

4. Prizes and recognition: The Top 3 teams will be invited to present their projects and ideas to stakeholders during the Privacy Week in Abuja in January 2024 and can promote and seek further support for developing their solutions.
Successful candidates will win cash prizes (up to N1,500,000 up for grabs) for innovation, impact, and commitment to user privacy and gain recognition for their contributions at the Privacy Banquet.
1st Prize= N750,000
2nd Prize= N500,000
3rd Prize= N250,000
And other non-cash prizes e.g. scholarships, internships, certifications etc.

Who are we looking for?
ELIGIBILITY AND PARTICIPATION
●Who can participate: Participants must be Nigerian citizens enrolled in tertiary institutions; either public or private universities, colleges of education, polytechnics or monotechnic. Female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply
●Team formation: Only team participations are allowed. (maximum team size is 3). Each team must have at least one female candidate.
●Accessibility: The hackathon will be hosted partly virtually and physically.

●Skill set: Have basic coding skills in Java, JavaScript, C++, and Python, with experience in one or more development technologies. Be a team player, have good knowledge of the Nigeria Data Protection Act and other legal and regulatory framework on data protection and privacy,
passionate about using tech skills to design digitally innovative solutions to promote data literacy in Nigeria.

●Registration: Participants must register before the deadline. Late applications will not be considered.

Thematic Areas
The code4privacy hackathon participants will be challenged to develop an ICT-based idea or solution that addresses one or more of the following:
1. Early Integration of Privacy: Participants are encouraged to conceptualize and build products or systems where privacy features are fundamental from the initial design phase.
2. Innovative Privacy Technologies: Explore cutting-edge technologies (such as homomorphic encryption, differential privacy, etc.) that enable data processing while maintaining privacy.
3. User-Centric Privacy Solutions: Emphasize solutions prioritizing user consent, transparency, and control over their data while delivering seamless experiences.
4. Legal and Ethical Compliance: Promote solutions that align with the Nigeria Data Protection Act and adhere to ethical data collection, storage, and usage principles.
